Shaun Downey Studies
Shaun Downey's book Trading Time (2007), introduced traders to a collection of twenty-eight of Downey's own proprietary studies, which are now available in CQG.
These studies offer unique views of the market, providing traders and analysts with insight not available with other studies. Chief among the studies is Downey's Volatility Time Bands.
Volatility Time Bands have various applications, including the ability to:
- Identify the direction of the trend by whether the market is above or below the bands.
- Determine how strong or weak the trend is by the price relationship to the first up or down bands.
- Gauge if the trend is accelerating by the price relationship between the first set of bands and any closes outside the third band.
- Spot potential trend reversals based on the price moving from one side of the bands to the other side.
- Recognize possible extremes by the trend based on the correct time of day, the extreme occurring on multiple timeframes, and matching range deviation pivots.

Order Comments
Add comments to orders as the order is entered in the keyboard order entry window in the Order Ticket. Brokers on an order desk can leave notes for each other about particular orders without leaving CQG IC. Order comments are displayed on the Orders and Positions window in the Comments column, keeping your order and its comments together for easy reference. Update comments as the details change.
Desk brokers who comment for their own reference can opt to keep those comments private. Individual traders can use this feature to make notes, such as stating the reason for the order.
Trading Large Quantities
Trade tens of thousands, millions, or billions of contracts with one order using CQG’s new large quantity abbreviations (K= thousand, M = million, B = billion), available on all trading applications: DOMTrader®, Order Ticket, Simple Order Ticket, SnapTrader, and Alerts.
Volume Weighted Average Price Study (VWAP)
VWAP is the volume weighted average price for a futures contract. The VWAP study calculates the difference between the current bar’s VWAP and the starting bar’s VWAP. You can specify whether the VWAP is calculated from the start of day, the start of session, or as an average using a look back period of your choice.
Antialiasing on Charts
Antialiasing is a technique to reduce distortion in computer graphics. This feature is now an option in chart displays resulting in better definition and less pixelation.
